Sen. Fred Mitchell
Chairman of The Progressive Liberal Party

The Progressive Liberal Party is saddened by news of the death of Bahamian baseball great Jackie Wright.

Jackie Wright picked up a baseball glove and bat during his childhood and became a dominant player at every stage in the Bahamas. He was a natural talent.

Jackie Wright added his name to our nation’s rich list of ball park giants when he signed with the Boston Red Soxs as a Major League prospect in January of 1978.

His father, L. Garth Wright, Senior, named Jackie after Brooklyn Dodgers great, Jackie Robinson. It’s safe to say Jackie Wright was a part of baseball’s royalty from birth.

On and off the field, Jackie Wright has contributed much to the development and promotion of our Bahamas.

I extend condolences to the Wright family and the local sports community on behalf of the Leader of the Progressive Liberal Party Hon. Philip Brave Davis, Deputy Leader I. Chester Cooper and the entire PLP family.

May he rest in peace.
